i almost laughed my ass off when i happen to chance upon this theory.
simply put, the gist of this theory is:
non-living objects can give rise to living organisms.
this is like so riddiculous larh! hahaha.
but don't laugh. this was widely accepted long long long long time ago k!

One example of SPT:
17th century recipe for the spontaneous production of mice:
place sweaty underwear and husks of wheat in an open-mouthed jar,
and wait for about 21 days.
during this period of time, the sweat from the underwear would penetrate the husks of wheat, changing them into mice.
